Price Tag

Everything has a price tag.

If you want to be patient, you will never learn it by being given everything you want exactly when you want it. The price tag is frustration and delay.

If you want to deadlift 600 pounds, you will never do it by sitting on the couch. The price tag is deadlifting multiple times a week, and being very uncomfortable.

If you want to learn to read, you will never do it if you only listen to audiobooks and can't recognize words. The price tag is spending time in reading classes.

If you want to be a good public speaker, you will never learn it by rehearsing alone in your room. The price tag is standing in front of people and stumbling through it until you don't.

If you want financial security, you will never build it by spending everything you earn the moment it arrives. The price tag is saying no to things you want now so you can afford the things you need later.

If you want a strong marriage, you will never have one by avoiding every hard conversation. The price tag is discomfort now in exchange for trust later.

If you want to be trusted, you will never earn it by only showing up when it's convenient. The price tag is consistency, even when it's not convenient.

If you want to write a book, you will never finish it by waiting for inspiration. The price tag is sitting down and writing badly, even when you don't want to.

If you want confidence, you will never build it by avoiding situations that scare you. The price tag is doing the scary thing, repeatedly.

If you want to lead people well, you will never learn it by only giving orders. The price tag is listening to feedback, even when you don't want to hear it.

Grown-ups pay the price tag. Your genetics may give you a sale. Your situation may give you a discount. But the cost is always there.

Everything else is stealing.

You may think you can get away with it. And for a while you might. But everything comes back around. Call it statistics, call it God, call it karma, call it people recognizing patterns. Call it reality.
